ReMatch-Summer Undergraduate Research Program
The primary goal of R-SURP is to create a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate student researchers from across the University. The program seeks to generate a more inclusive pipeline toward scholarly research and, to address, over time, the underrepresentation of certain groups in academic research communities.
For freshman and sophomore mentees (R-SURPees), the program provides an opportunity to carry out a paid graduate-mentored research project over the summer of 2016. In addition, R-SURPees will have an opportunity to engage with a diverse community of student researchers, provide each other with support and constructive feedback throughout the research process, as well as share experiences with younger students in order to help encourage and nurture their research aspirations. Small R-SURPee teams will be called to develop and coordinate a series of workshops for incoming students in the Freshman Scholars Institute by sharing advice on how to get started with research at Princeton.
For graduate participants (R-SURPors), the program offers the opportunity to mentor an undergraduate student through a summer research internship. The program offers mentorship training and support to participants and provides opportunities to engage in a diverse and inclusive research community at Princeton.
The program runs for nine weeks, from June 6, 2016 to August 5, 2016. Participants may select one of two start dates (either June 6 or June 20) and are expected to be on-campus Monday to Friday, through August 5. **Importantly, students appointed in FSI supporting roles through the remainder of August should apply for a June 6 start date and July 22 end date.
All enrolled post-generals ReMatch graduate mentors who have participated in at least one program event this academic year are eligible to apply (exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis).
The R-SURP application for summer 2016 will be available online on Monday, February 1, 2016, on the Global Programs System (see links below).
