Ph.D. students who have not completed their degree have the opportunity to reenroll for up to two additional years of Dissertation Completion Enrollment (DCE) status. DCE students (in residence or in absentia) incur a DCE tuition rate that includes the mandatory Student Health Plan fee. Funding is not guaranteed in all cases. However, there are a number of options available, as outlined below. Students going into DCE status for the first time are encouraged to stay in close contact with their academic departments about financial support and timing. It is also important to fully review the Graduate School's DCE Funding Policy. Learn more about dissertation completion enrollment in the Academics section. Princeton Fellowships A number of internal fellowships are available to students in dissertation completion enrollment status. Explore Princeton Fellowships Additional Opportunities DCE Tuition Grants Eligible students may qualify for DCE tuition grants, which cover the full DCE tuition expense. To qualify, students must meet one of these two criteria. Assistantship in Instruction Appointment (AI): Full DCE tuition is covered with an AI appointment of 2.0 hours or more. External Fellowships: Full DCE tuition is covered for students with an external fellowship stipend that is at least 50% of either the University Fellowship or AR stipend rate (calculated on a 10-month basis). Departmental Funding Certain departments offer designated funding to support students in DCE status. Consult with your academic adviser for details. Banked Fellowship Funding Students who banked University fellowship funding while supported on external fellowship must utilize their banked Princeton fellowship during the first year of DCE enrollment. Childbirth & Adoption Accommodation Those granted an extra term of financial support under Part 3 of the Childbirth and Adoption Accommodation policy may use it while in DCE status. If DCE status is being pursued, consult with the Davis International Center to complete a new I-20 during each year of DCE enrollment. Self Support If you have truly exhausted all financial support options within your department and relevant programs, as well as from outside sources, then you have three options: Use your own financial resources; Request a federal student loan through Finance and Administration in the Graduate School; or Enter Enrollment Terminated/Degree Candidacy Continues (ET/DCC) status. In ET/DCC status you are not required to pay tuition and will have only the limited benefits provided to those in ET/DCC students. These benefits consist of library and computer privileges for up to one year after entering ET/DCC status. All enrolled students on self-support are billed for required tuition and fees (and any other appropriate charges) in August for the fall term and in January for the spring term. If a student ends their DCE enrollment prior to the end of a term, the required tuition and fees are prorated per the Tuition Billing and Refund Policy.
