University of Tokyo Research Collaboration

The research exchange enables graduate students from University of Tokyo to spend from one month up to twelve months conducting research under the umbrella of project-based collaborations approved by the Strategic Partnership Governance Committee. Students hold the status of VSRC while at Princeton, are not eligible to take courses for official credit, and are only permitted to audit a course with prior permission from the instructor.


Application Submission Dates As early as six months, but no later than three months prior to your intended start date (See chart.)
Program Dates

Must begin on first day of the start month, end on the last day of the end month

Application Requirements

  • Statement of academic research - brief statement describing your research project

  • Resume or curriculum vitae   

  • Home Institution Adviser Statement – statement by your home institution adviser that includes: confirmation of your enrolled graduate student status, nature of collaborative work and its relevance to your academic and scholarly progress

  • Transcript from current enrolled school

  • Copy of your current passport (name page only) - international applicants only

  • Evidence of sufficient financial resources to cover the monthly financial requirements

    • Include a translation to English Language and U.S. currency if applicable

    • Bank statements and scholarship letters must include full name

Visa Information

(International applicants only)

All international nondegree students must arrive in the U.S. with a valid F-1 or J-1 student visa. The Davis International Center will assist with the visa eligibility documents (I-20 for F-1 students or DS-2019 for J-1 students) after admission is offered.
