Policy on the Release of Student Information
The Graduate School often receives requests from student organizations to provide a mailing list of names and addresses of students from a particular national origin, sex, or race. The Graduate School will not release this directory (i.e. name, address, department). However, because we recognize that you may want to know about activities and programs organized by your peers, we have established a procedure whereby your name and address would not be released, but you could still receive a mailing from a student organization. When a group requests a mailing list from the Graduate School , we ask that they bring us envelopes containing the newsletter or information sheet. The Graduate School will provide a member of that group with mailing labels for identified students. Volunteers from the student organization will affix these labels to the envelopes in the Graduate School Office, with a Graduate School staff member overseeing the actual mailing. At no time will a member of a student organization have access to the mailing list, and the labels will not be permitted to leave Clio Hall. The same procedure will apply for requests from outside groups.
We are happy to assist organizations reach their memberships, but at the same time want to protect the confidentiality of the graduate student population. We hope you agree that this policy and procedure accomplish both of these objectives. Please arrange for your mailing with the Office of Graduate Student Life at least five days in advance so that we can have the mailing labels ready.
