Hyde Donald and Mary Hyde Fellowship Fund

This fellowship is restricted to graduate students in one of the following eight humanities departments: Art and Archaeology, Classics, East Asian Studies, English, French and Italian, German, Near Eastern Studies, and Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Cultures. Preference will be given to projects requiring research and residence in England, though awards are not limited to study in this one country.

For 2008-09, the Hyde Academic Year Research Fellowship provides $24,000 over 10 months ($3,167 more than the normal stipend) to cover expenses of living abroad for a period of up to 10 months, as well as the cost of travel from and return to the United States. The Hyde Summer Research Award enables graduate students to pursue dissertation research requiring a brief residence abroad and provides $6,000 over two months ($1,833 more than the normal stipend) to be used for travel and expenses of living abroad.

Twelve fellowships are available for 2008-09; six for the academic year and six for summer research. The deadline for nominations, however, has passed. Information on next year’s competition will be posted in mid-February 2009. If you have any questions, please contact Sandy Sussman via e-mail or at (609) 258-3035.
