Chris Lu is a former United States Deputy Secretary of Labor. He also served as Assistant to the President and White House Cabinet Secretary for United States President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013, as well as the co-chair of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Lu graduated from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University and from Harvard Law School.
Sylvia Chan-Malik is Assistant Professor in the Departments of American and Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Her book, Being Muslim: A Cultural History of Women of Color and American Islam (NYU Press, forthcoming Spring 2018) offers an alternative narrative of American Islam in the 20-21st century that centers the lives, subjectivities, and voices of women of color. She holds a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley (2009) and an M.F.A. from Mills College in Creative Writing.sity of California, Berkeley.
